Amelia Earhart Park is a major urban recreational area in
Miami-Dade County, just north of the Miami suburb of Hialeah.
It is a popular spot for bicycling, inline skating, and family
outings.
Attractions and Activities in the Park
The park has several miles of bicycle trails,
a dog park, children's playgrounds, picnic tables,
a petting zoo, a farm village, hayrides, a disc golf course,
and lakes and ponds used for for fishing,
kayaking, paddleboating. At one time there was also an
aggressive skatepark, but it is destroyed by Hurricane
Wilma in 2005. Concessions
inside the park include bicycle rentals, cycle-surry rentals,
hayrides, paddleboat rentals, kayak rentals, shops, and snackbars.
Bill Graham Farm Village
This section of Amelia Earhart Park has
a petting zoo, hayrides, pony rides, a country
store, an insect museum, an exhibit hall,
an old sugar cane press, and demonstrations of
cows being milked. horses being shoed, sheep being
sheared, and lovestock being judged.
Bark Park
This 5 acre dog park was built in 2002 and it
has separate sections for small dogs and large dogs.
The park has paved walkways, benches, shade trees,
doggie waste dispenser stations, and drinking
and spraying stations for dogs and their owners.
Disc Golf Course
The World Disc Golf Championships were held at
Amelia Earhart Park's 18 hole disc golf course in 2001.
The course was completely rebuilt after Hurricane Wilma
distroyed most of it in 2005.
